Simon Apple
November 18 , 7 PM in Fellowship Hall
Simon Apple, was formed in the 90's by two Philadelphia area musicians, Buzz Saylor and Jeff Miller, who coupled pop, progressive rock and jazz with texts that were thought provoking, positive, hopeful and humorous. The group has gone on to produce 2 CD's, the latest being River to the Sea . At least two of their singles have reached the top 30 on the Adult Contemporary Gavin chart. They have performed with Elton John, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Cher , and others, as well as at Eagles, Flyers, Sixers, and Phantoms games. Having a bit different focus and flare, Simon Apple will appeal to young and old alike.
Lux aeterna by Morten Lauridesen
November 4, 10:30 AM in the Sanctuary
The Senior Choir of Immanuel presents
Morten Lauridesen's Lux aeterna.
With texts drawn from sacred Latin sources, each movement contains references to Light. The piece opens and closes with the beginning and ending of the Requiem Mass, while the three central movements are drawn, respectively, from the Te Deum (including a line from the Beatus Vir ), O Nata Lux , and Veni, Sancte Spiritus . Jim Svejda of NPR said of the work “The first recording of Lux Aeterna… demonstrates that it IS possible for important contemporary music to speak directly to the human heart…Lux Aeterna is a rich, complex, intensely moving piece that people will be listening to for a long time to come."
Celebration of Christmas -
A Vaughan Williams Christmas

The Senior Choir of Immanuel, accompanied by orchestra, presents
A Vaughan Williams Christmas.
Featuring two works by Vaughan Willams: his little known incidental music for the nativity play "The First Noel" and the much loved "Fantasia of Christmas Carols." Vaughan William's music is a wonderful way to connect with the beauty and profoundity of the season.

Reading Symphony Junior String Orchestra
Tenatively scheduled for May 4th, 3PM
The RSJSO was formed in 1999 to give promising students, grades 4-8, from Berks and surrounding counties, the opportunity to play orchestral music with other talented instrumentalists. Auditions are held every fall and they present several concerts a year. The group is directed by Richard Ney of Lancaster County and has been practicing every Saturday at Immanuel. They offered to perform a concert to thank us for the use of the space, and we are delighted to take them up on their offer.
