Immanuel Koinonia Groups
Koinonia

What is Koinonia?

•  Koinonia in brief means Christian Fellowship.
•  Koinonia is pronounced "coin-o-knee-a".
•  Koinonia stems from the Greek word that described life together in the early church and means "to share, to hold things in common."
•  Koinonia is a fellowship of church members who meet regularly.

Who can be in a Koinonia Group?

•  Any member of the church.

What is Expected?

•  A covenant among the members to meet together on a regular basis.
•  A commitment to be supportive of others in the group.
•  A sense of appropriate confidentiality.
•  An environment that enables fellowship to develop.
•  A one year commitment to stay in fellowship with the group. Once a year there will be an evaluation of all groups and an opportunity to "step out" of a group if one desires.

What is the purpose of a Koinonia Group?

•  To enable members to become better acquainted with one another.
•  To provide social opportunities for small groups of 10-14 people.
•  To provide opportunities for spiritual growth.
•  To provide a group with the possible opportunity for doing a community project.
•  To enable people to come together to do any combination of the above.

How does Koinonia work?

•  Once a year, there will be a sign up of interested individuals. New members can be added to existing groups when vacancies occur if the group concurs. Or, if there are enough interested individuals new groups may be formed.
•  These members will be placed in groups of 10-14 depending on their intended interest for meeting (e.g. social, Bible Study, spiritual growth, project, combination, other...).
•  Once the groups are formed, they will have their initial meeting to discuss:
•  Frequency of meeting (generally once a month)
•  Where to meet
•  When to meet
•  Who will call the next meeting
•  Discuss responsibilities
•  Get to know one another
•  outline schedule of future meetings

What is the value of Koinonia?

•  Friendship development.
•  Making acquaintances in a large church.
•  An opportunity to reach out to others.
•  An opportunity to grow spiritually.
•  An opportunity to have fun on an ongoing basis with other members of one's church.
