Parish Nurse's Mission Statement

  Parish Nurses will provide a ministry to all members of the congregation while respecting the individual. Under God's direction and the leadership of the church, care for the body, mind, and spirit of all members will be offered. Parish Nurses will provide education and health awareness activities, referral to resources, advice and support in the transition following an illness or hospitalization, and avenues for spiritual growth and faith expression.

Why have a Parish Nurse Program?

  It is a call of faith to restore people to wholeness. it is a sign of God's presence and a sign of what life is meant to be. Jesus' healing was not only physical; it healed the wounds of isolation, restored hope and healed relationships. This program works in collaboration with the pastors, parish life committee, and other church committees to identify and address the health - mind, body, and spirit - of all member at Immanuel UCC.

What is a Parish Nurse?

•  A professional nurse or health professional who is a member and who serves the members of Immanuel UCC in a volunteer capacity.
•  A health educator who delivers programs and resources to the congregation based on healthier lifestyle needs.
•  A health coordinator who provides individual health counseling related to health maintenance, disease prevention or illness patterns.
•  An integrator of faith and health by incorporating the important of faith and spiritual care in caring for the individual and the community.
•  A liaison between the individual and the caregivers and community resources.
•  A learner, gathering new information and resources for the various members of the congregation.
•  Confidential, respecting the privacy of the individual.

What is a Parish Nurse NOT...
A Parish Nurse

•  Does not provide hands-on medical or personal care.
•  Does not offer a diagnosis
•  Does not dispense medications
•  Does not replace the need for a physician or other health care professional.

How to request a Parish Nurse

  A request for a Parish Nurse should be made through the Pastor of Parish Life at Immanuel UCC.
