Liturgical Seasons

Lent, Holy Week, and Easter

Lent, beginning forty days before the resurrection of Christ (Easter), is a time for prayer and reflection. Lent begins with a service on Ash Wednesday. Immanuel holds Holy Week services for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday. Immanuel’s festive Easter morning is filled with music and celebration of the resurrection of Christ.

Advent and Christmas

Advent is a season of spiritual preparation for the celebration of the birth of Christ (Christmas) and looks forward to the future reign of Christ. Immanuel welcomes you to join in the preparation of Christmas through the four Sundays of Advent. Christmas Eve is highlighted at Immanuel with an annual children’s cantata and candlelight services, celebrating the birth of Christ. For the first Sunday following Christmas, join us for Lessons and Carols, as we share stories and sing songs relating to Christmas tide in worship.

Special Services

Pentecost Sunday

Music Sunday

Pentecost Sunday is celebrated fifty days (seven weeks) after the Easter celebration. This Sunday is traditionally considered the birthday of the church. At Immanuel, we welcome Immanuel's newest members on Pentecost, as we confirm our confirmation classes.

Music Sunday, held annually during a Sunday in May, is a celebration of the music ministries at Immanuel. Anthems and songs fill the service. For more information on music at Immanuel, visit our Music Ministries page.

Mission Sunday

All Saints' Sunday

Backpack Sunday

Every year, youth and adults from Immanuel go on mission trips to spread God’s word and serve his creation. Following their return, mission trip participants lead a service to share their experiences.

All Saints Sunday is celebrated on the first Sunday of November. At Immanuel, we celebrate those who have served the church. By remembering those of the past, the church is inspired to live faithfully as Christ's disciples in the present.

Backpack Sunday occurs the last Sunday in August as students head back for the school year. Join us in worship as we mark the return to school and ask God’s blessing upon students, teachers, parents, and all who accompany us throughout the year. Each will receive a backpack accessory as a reminder of God’s presence with them.
